David Winton is a senior project director and electrical engineer with over 25 years of experience delivering complex energy infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. His career spans battery energy storage, onshore and offshore wind, high-voltage transmission and distribution, and major building services programmes.
David has held senior delivery roles on some of the UK's most technically demanding energy projects, including lead project delivery responsibility on the Wilton Battery Energy Storage System — one of the UK's largest grid-scale BESS projects — and major transmission infrastructure programmes with National Grid and Siemens. His experience encompasses the full project lifecycle, from development readiness and grid connection management through to EPC procurement, construction delivery, Grid Code compliance and NESO/ONCC interface management.
Earlier in his career, David built deep technical foundations as a qualified electrical engineer, working across high-voltage substation design, protection and control systems, and power systems engineering. This engineering grounding informs his approach to project delivery — combining technical authority with commercial discipline and clear programme management.
David has worked across a broad range of client environments — from major utilities and Tier 1 EPC contractors to independent developers and infrastructure investors — and is experienced in managing complex multi-stakeholder programmes where technical, commercial and regulatory workstreams must be coordinated simultaneously.

Lead project delivery on one of the UK's largest grid-scale BESS projects. Responsible for the full delivery programme — grid connection management, NESO and Transmission Owner interface, ONCC compliance, EPC contractor oversight and energisation.
Siemens Energy
Senior delivery on high-voltage transmission infrastructure programmes, managing substation design, protection and control workstreams, grid connection interfaces and multi-contractor programme coordination on behalf of the UK's transmission system operator.
Freedom Power Projects
Project management of major HV substation and power systems programmes for transmission and distribution clients, covering design delivery, contractor management, programme control and client reporting across concurrent projects.
